Carbon Care Initiative

EPE’25, welcome back to carbon-neutral conference

EPE’13 ECCE Europe has been organized in Lille in September 2013 according to a carbon care philosophy. Different actions had been developed to reduce the equivalent greenhouse gases (GHG) emitted by the conference. Therefore, the organization committee of EPE’25 decided to work again in a carbon care philosophy by limiting and mitigating the GHG that will be originated due to the conference. Based on the previous experience of EPE’13 ECCE Europe, the carbon care action of EPE’25 will consider the following tasks: awareness of the organizers and attendees, estimation of the GHG emission, reduction of the GHG emission, and mitigation of the emitted GHG.

In addition, EPE’25 will celebrate the bicentenary of the discovery of the greenhouse effect (1824) by Joseph FOURIER, French physicist, naturally recognized worldwide by engineers. This is Fourier’s important contribution to the Earth and space sciences by analysing his «Memoir on the temperature of the Earth and planetary spaces». For this celebration, EPE’25 will offer best Joseph FOURIER awards based on video presentations and will conclude with a special awards ceremony.

Jean-Baptiste Joseph Fourier and the discovery of the greenhouse effect.

Joseph Fourier is well known for his mathematical studies and for his work on heat diffusion. Fourier series, Fourier coefficients, Fourier integrals, etc. are common expressions. Fourier’s best known work is probably the «Analytical theory of heat».

Here we celebrate the bicentenary of the discovery of the greenhouse effect (1824) by Joseph FOURIER, French physicist, naturally recognized worldwide by engineers.

This is Fourier’s important contribution to the Earth and space sciences by analysing his «Memoir on the temperature of the Earth and planetary spaces».
